Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

Possibly in need of a new CD player, OR an "all in one solution"? Help!

I have been watching to see what suggestions might be made as far as new CD players lately; in particular inmate "Demo", who hasn't seemed to get any replies...

I have a similar story with my player and wonder if it is time to cast fate to the wind or just get into a music server-style thing.

My current player (a NAD C542, which about 10 years old now) has started to do some funky stuff. Lately, it may play fine a whole disc through without issue; other times (like yesterday as D-Wife reported to me), it stopped mid-play and would not go to any other track. She ejected the disc and noted that it was spinning out as the door opening (yikes!).

Is that a symptom of the guide rails needing new lube? Is it the laser getting ready to give up the ghost?

If I were to get a new player, I might consider an all in one option, like an Oppo 103 or similer, as I have a bunch of DVD-A discs and maybe two or three SACD/CD hybrids, and a pile of DVD-V discs (haven't jumped at Blu-ray yet).

Thoughts, comments or tomatoes are welcome.

Cheers,
Dman
