RE: new dac chips?

Maybe not possible where you live, but I would take your transport to a dealer and audition some of their outboard DACs and see if one is to your liking. You can easily compare what you have and the new dac sound and see if you think it is better or not.

You could spend considerable money on parts and labor and then not like what you hear on any mod you might make. If the mod is close to $400 I would seriously look at a B stock Marantz player from www.accessores4less.com as the 5000 and 6000 series have gotten great reviews.
