Home Digital Drive

Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

RE: I owned the Prime and reading that review now is hilarious...

Hi and thanks a lot for the very valuable advice.
So i understand that digital has actually improved thorugh the years.
Because i got this feeling that the technology stopped in the '90.
And then it got worse.
I would like to add an experience.
Very unsatisfied with my system playing cds with a Rotel 970bx a friend of mine put his turntable in my system.
Much much better. Absolutely bearable.
So for me the problem is indeed digital.
And we were listening through a phono stage with op-amps ... so it is not the output stage.
I am pretty convinced that is the processing inside a dac that makes the difference ... it could be a filter issue.
Actually i am pretty sure about this.
For instance ... old and new Theta dacs are extremely praised.
Could it be that the real secret of their excellent sound is in the filters ?
I see people talking much more of multibit, output stage, power supplies.
Digital filters are not very popular in the discussions.
Maybe the secret is there ?
Maybe even a cheap delta-signa, with a op-amp output stage but a very well designed and built digital filter could sound tremendous ?
I do not know.
And i am waiting for the verdict.
Digital must be excellent and also not very expensive.
Just well designed.
Thanks a lot again.

Kind regards,
bg
