I'm a sucker for good soundstaging too, i.e the feeling that music expands in a natural space, not a fake one (constrained or bloomy). The best soundstage I've heard so far has always been with Esoteric players, two of them, both using the VRDS Neo, used either on their own or with an external DAC. So the secret could be the quality of the transport itself. Or not!
In any case I think the debate between DACs is typically audiophile masturbation. It's a complex alchemy where everything matters. A great transport can be ruined by a bad DAC, the opposite is also true. All a question of balance. But I now believe the very first step of retrieving the signal from the pits (if you play CDs) is paramount.
