There is no way you can change the chipset. Even if possible, they would have soldered it in so you CAN'T change it.
I like equipment that sockets their op-amps as very often a newer or different replacement can be had.
A DAC chip, I think, would be way beyond standardization. Maybe, someone else can chime in on this.
I use my old SONY as a transport. They make very nice transports, mostly because they were solidly built. [Whether sonically they make good transports I don't know, but I'm OK with it so far. I once tried some cheaper DVDs as transports and they were better sounding, but I've since moved on to a different DAC and I rather not know at this point!]
