Home Digital Drive

Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

some suggestions ...

of software I've used to evaluate CDPs:

Trinity Sessions, Cowboy Junkees, recorded live in a Toronto church, by Peter Moore using a 2-track DAT w/ single Calrec Ambisonic Microphone. Track Sweet Jane; a true test for any system.

Patricia Barber, Companion, a live recording (@Green Mile) using 24/96 equipment, except for 1 song, which was recorded using 16bit.

Patricia Barber, Cafe Blue, another native 16 bit master. Nardis sounds utterly amazing and "live" on the right system.

Eva Cassidy, Live at Blues Alley, I thought it was originally recorded digitally @24/96, although I was recently surprised to read (somewhere) that the 180g LP was mastered from the "original analog masters". In any event, this CD, on a resolute system, places the venue and it's soundstage directly within your room. Superb dynamic range, her powerful and emotive voice alone represents a hard test for any system.

I even use specific well known songs, based on pressings/recordings; for instance I've used Barry Diaments mastered LZ3, the song "Since I've been Loving you", J.Bohnam's bass drum obviously needed oiling, you should be able to hear it squeak ...
