RE: Why CDs may sound better than vinyl

I've been a vinyl skeptic ever since CD's first came out, so perhaps it's no surprise that I'm surprised at all the assertions I read in this thread indicating that LP's can last forever. I remember many, many years ago, Stereo Review published electron microscope photos of pristine, unplayed grooves vs. the same grooves after just one play, and the amount of groove deformation was amazing! I know cartridges and the associated playback apparatus must have improved since the days of that publication, but I've never seen similar recent photos based on similar tests.

I would love to see this kind of update, because, despite my trust in the assurances of my good friends on this thread who love vinyl (!), seeing is believing! ;-)
