Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

from a picture point of view ...

>>And how the Blu-Ray quality is compared to the Sony PS-3.<<

I currently don't own an Oppo (current BR=Panny), but I can safely say that they're head over heals better in picture quality than ANY BRplayer I've owned/seen. AFAIC, if you intend to calibrate your HDTV using BR/HDMI output - the only player for the job is an Oppo. Otherwise, you`ll not only get an incorrect calibration with the HDMI inputs, but every other input, based on that cab. will also be compromised.

To my dismay, every non-Oppo players I've used, even top of the line models from samsung, panasonic and sony, all showed signs of incorrect color spaces (esp.green/luminance), and far worse - ALL - showed some form of edge enhancement-distorion (ex: like too high a sharpness setting). Some of these issues could be minimized thru certain BR menu settings, but never entirely eliminated.

Every Oppo I've witnessed, had no such issues. With an Oppo, I could properly calibrate a HDTV thru HDMI and every other input would benefit. (This is why these badly conceived, little experienced `geek-squad` type calibrations, which use HDMI for cabbing, tend to ALWAYS fail when using certain test patterns with the HDTV native mode inputs).
