Hi
i read an amazing preliminary review of this new dac from Schiit Audio.
The future will tell if it is a real game changer.
Anyway what has surprised me is that at Analog Device, the people who have designed and built the dac chip (the real star of the show i understand), they state that the chip is not intended for audio.
And i have actually read about the difficulties to make it work in a audio dac.
This really puzzles me.
How it is possible that a part not intended for audio sounds so fantastic ?
What kind of performance instead could give a similar dac chip but designed for audio ?
In the end ... what is for audio and what is not ?
I stop all my rambling with the convinction that digital audio has still a long way to go. That is still very far to be completely understood.
Even the so much criticized low resolution cds can give spectacular sound when played back rightly.
This is both worrying and exciting i think.
Have anyone listened to this dac ?
Is it really so phenomenal to turn even redbook tracks in something better than High Rez ?
I am putting money away ... if this thing will be so exceptional ast they say i could very well make a sacrifice.
And i hope that at Analog Device they will give a big boost to the concept.
100 USD a piece can be a lot for a dac chip, but this looks like something special indeed.
Thanks a lot.
Kind regards,
bg
