The choice of filtering options for best sound depends on the particular equipment used to make individual recordings and the particular settings the engineers used. (Plus the playback system and listener's taste as well.) The choice of options is most critical at the lowest resolution format (e.g. Redbook). It is less critical when dealing with higher resolution material, but there can still be audible effects.

The impact of computer upsampling on sound quality vs. sending the raw file to the DAC is likely to be greater when using an inexpensive DAC that uses stock chip filters. It is likely to be minimal when using a state of the art DAC that uses bespoke filters, but still the issue of filter choice will remain when playing lower resolution recordings.
