Just got a Yamaha BD-S677 last night (blu ray, sacd, hdcd) and after long sessions of listening with my wife, we both agree it is better sounding on all formats, by a hair, but more natural sounding.
The MSB does add a very little more air, reverb, a bit more separation, but at the cost of sibilance and noise. They are very very close in sound. Very very close. The sound is a tad cleaner and natural, smoother overall on all genres and formats with the yamaha analog outputs. The MSB does not upsample if you may ask.
I am just going to use the MSB for my apple tv for now on...
This yamaha is a great buy at $250. Wonder if there's something siginificant to gain with a better oppo or marantz blu ray... or by using a newer DAC like audiomagic 100, schiit bifrost or Peachtree DAC itx.
Any suggestions?
