That's what my digital front end still is: Yamaha DVD s540 feeding a msb link III since 2001. I chose the Yamaha because it is capable to output 24bit/96khz pcm through either optical or coax, unlike most dvd and blu-ray players which downsample to 48khz.
I am not techy and I don't know how to evaluate the gutts of this DAC against 2015 gear.. can you help? it features a burr brown 24/96 processor, that's all I know.
Basically my question is do today's cd players, dvd players produce better sound (thinking NAD, Marantz, Pioneer) on their own with their output stage ??
Would a schiit bifrost surpass the MSB?
thanks!
