The last full Akurate system I heard was at the 2012 Sydney audio show. It was in one of the better rooms (acoustically) and I remember it being very clean, precise, bordering on clinical. Probably erring a bit on the lean side as well. Not harsh though, as long as you were in the sweet spot. The speakers sounded a bit hot on axis, but if they are set up pointing straight ahead and you sit between them in the sweet spot they shouldn't be harsh. Maybe if you were sitting off-center and right in the main beam of one of the speakers it would be worse.

I think it is mainly the sound of the speakers, because I have heard Akurate sources and amps separately.
