Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

I wish I had a buck...

for every audio manufacturer I met while working at Garland Audio in the late 1970's who was absolutely convinced that his approach to component design and/or system integration was the only true road to sonic nirvana (no, I won't name names).

Given that context, I don't find Peter Q's commentary, whether it be judged "right" or "wrong", that outrageous or nutty. IME, it comes with the territory, and I suspect that there are any number of manufacturers who wouldn't be in the business (and be willing to put up with its headaches) if they didn't fit that attitudinal mold. Moreover, it's an attitude shared in practice by not a small number of consumers who post regularly on audio boards and are every bit as dogmatic about what they consider the only approach to sound reproduction (and, no, I won't name names here, either).

What I found particularly interesting, and refreshing, about the interview was Peter Q's comment about how potential DAC upgrades might be handled if what he's listening to now winds up bearing production and distribution fruit.
