I think that there's also a tendency to separate out SQ from listening for content.
That being said, - I agree that a lot of folks are not comparing their tweaked out computer based playback with CDs or vinyl.
Carcass is definitely one of those (seems like few) people who can directly compare his computer with spinning discs: as the same DAC is used for both.
I do as well, and my experiences are very different from his.
