Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

Interesting that you mention the Alchemy DDE v3.0

I recently brought mine out of mothballs to give it a listen.

My experience is that the v3.0 sounds better using Audio Alchemy's Power Station Two, a beefy, multi-voltage power supply upgrade they offered, over the stock DC supply it came with. The reviews at the time it was popular seemed to agree.

In regard to using batteries, results seem to depend on the type of batteries used, according to information given on the Belleson Super Regulator site.

Hmm. For some reason, these links don't lead to the pages which show the scope trace pictures. You'll have to follow the link below, and then click on "Compare to" at the top of the home page to see the results.

At this stage of the game, I'm just happy to find that my Alchemy's still working. But it's good to know that there's little need for me to try and recreate your battery experiment. You went to a lot of work to make that happen!

Also of note; I was powering my Graham Slee phono stage using two 12 V motorcycle batteries in series, to supply +24 VDC to the Slee. As an experiment, I charged up a 54,000 µF capacitor, and placed it across the two batteries. The slight improvement in sound surprised me somewhat, since I always thought batteries were "pure DC", as Roseval mentioned.

Apparently, from what I've read, as a battery discharges to produce electrons, the chemical reaction does produce some noise.
