Thanks to all for your responses. I think for now, replacement is the way to go, but I will hold on to the Arcam in case I find someone close by who can really troubleshoot it for a reasonable cost. I don't want to try changing more parts and hoping for the best.
I will be keeping my eye out for a used (but fairly new) Marantz SA-8004, and get the benefit of SACD as well. A new SA-8005 is a little more than I can justify with one kid in college and another one starting in September!
I have heard the Marantz unit sound very nice for SACD, but does anyone know how the CD playback compares to the CD23?
