Arcam FMJ CD23 - repair or replace?

Like many others, I have an Arcam FMJ CD23 that is skipping. I tried replacing the laser with a inexpensive clone, which helped for a short time, but it started skipping again. A few repair shops have told me that parts are not available and the unit is worthless.

There is a repair tech in Isreal that tells me that the laser is being damaged by the unstable current on the main PSU, so the complete PCB must be overhauled. With overseas shipping both ways I'm looking at around $500.

Is this unit worth repairing, or am I better off putting the money towards a newer unit? I was thinking about a Marantz SA-8005.
