Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

RE: Teac UD501

"Over all it sounds pretty close to the Sony 5400 on Redbook. A little more forward thats for sure. Files through Amarra not as good as the Sony transport in my opinion. AIFF ripped files seemed a little wall like in the upper registers. "

Hmmm ... I don't know the TEAC, but if it some hardness - it may be related to the USB bus, especially if you have *anything else* plugged in to the USB. I ended up going to a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse to avoid the use of the USB for anything but the feeding of the DAC. And I also had some automated processes running on the computer (like backups, etc.) that I had to disable.

Also make sure when you rip the file that it ends up "bit perfect" - sometimes ripping programs won't error check in order to have fast ripping.

Also for Audivarna and Amarra - try to have it play from memory rather than the hard drive - that makes a substantial difference, too.

Agree that heading over to "Computer Audiophile" has a host of people that probably have done exactly what you are now tryign to do so will be full of helpful advice!
