RE: 25 years of CD player progress

I have worked in IT since the early late 80's and I know how you feel. The last thing I want to do is come home and work on computers. I delivered pizzas for a semester while I was in college and I couldn't eat pizza for a year!

I don't mind dropping a needle on a record, so it certainly doesn't bother me to slip a silver drink coaster into a tray. The only CD player I have ever bought new was a Radio Shack CD 3400, which I bought to play "Dick's Picks". I have a vintage system and there are lots of CD players in the thrift stores.

I have CD players from the 80's, 90's and 2000's. I have paid little or nothing for them. They do keep getting better (at least the ones I have tried). I am always amazed when I see a post about an 80's Mission (which I have), or some other 80's player where they claim it sounds good. Maybe it did when it was new, but to my ears, even lower end player from the 90's smoke it.

My latest player, a Marantz DV6600 Universal Player from 2006, sounds better than anything else I have. It is worth every penny of the $15 I paid for it!

I hope you enjoy you Marantz! Even though I have not heard your model, I am sure that you are correct that it smokes you B&O. I have heard the B&O. I sold B&O in the 80's. It was good for its day, but its day has passed.

Dave
