25 years of CD player progress

A B&O CDX player that has served me well for over 25 years finally bit the dust late last week and a Marantz SA-8004 now sits in its place. The B&O player was a very good player in its day but I can't believe how much better the Marantz sounds. I know it is not the end-all player today, but the improvement isn't incremental. It is astounding how much better it is and it is not broken in yet. I listened deep into the night yesterday, no vinyl for the first time in I don't know how long.

I tend to keep equipment until it breaks but I have to say the uptick in quality far exceeds my recent replacements in turntables or amplifiers. CD improvements have caught me off guard. I guess my head has been in the sand. I really like that I can also play my iPod, memory sticks, or any other digital input through to the excellent DAC. This versitility was key because I really don't want to mess with servers as the only way to play digital sources. I have worked in IT for close to 40 years and I just don't want to mess with that stuff at home. The 8004 is an outstanding player, but what do I know? I apparently haven't been around. :-)
