But think how much it would cost to attend a complete performance live.

That's a bit of a false equivalency. Not only is seeing a production live a completely different experience than listening to an audio only recording in your home, but the cost of mounting that live production is substantially more expensive than the recording.

I'm thinking that the way to go is to buy the set, remove the Blu-ray, and then sell the set "used" without it. I suspect that there are a lot of people out there who don't care about the Blu-ray and will gladly buy the set without it for a $40 discount.
