My friend sent me these comments on his new Bifrost:
"I let the Bifrost break in for 30 hours, then got out my good equipment to have a listen. Started with some comparisons between the analog of the Sony Blu-Ray, and the Bifrost. Same characteristics as on my garage speakers. With the Blue-Ray analog, songs were thin and rather irritating (just less so than with my cheap garage speakers as the Ascend Sierra 1's are pretty detailed, yet forgiving). Switching over to the Bifrost yielded a more realistic, weighty, and relaxed sound.
One of my tests is Fleetwood Mac Rumors. I enjoy the songs on this album, but the redboock CD I find it thin and irritating. Whenever I (used) to turn it up the volume on this album to be enjoyable, and it was simply a chore to stand to listen to it. On the Bifrost I could really fill the room with the tracks from this CD. I didn't want to turn it off. Such a difference! I have the DVD-Audio of this album, but haven't compared them yet. The Bifrost is really starting to show off female vocals at this point.
My Dad gave me a CD of some harpsichord music. Typically the harpsichord sounds like a twangy child's toy on CD. Somewhat revolting. On the Bifrost, the warmth of the harpsichord came through, and it was really enjoyable for the first time.
Went on to Robert Plant, Joe Bonamassa, Art vs. Science, Sia, and a little Megadeth (on Moshcam), and finished with some Mozart.
Turned out to be one of the best times I have had listening in a long long time! I don't want to sound too excited, yet but...
I AM ECSTATIC at the sound so far. Especially at the ability to play older recordings, and they sound good. I heard the exact same difference as when you switched your system from the Bifrost to your Oppo for a few seconds (maybe not as stark a difference because I felt your system really was quite intimate and put you in the room with the performers, while with mine you are still in the audience).
Thanks for letting me know about this DAC."
