RE: Is it safe to run a CD player almost continuously to burn in the DAC?

Of course, you can use your new player, it's just that you will be submitting it to some wear tear for a non-listening task - which is the answer to your original question. Think of it this way, however many hours your new player ends up lasting (which no one knows for certain) it ultimately will provide actual listening time reduced by an amount equal to whatever burn-in time you task it to. For example, 400 hours of burn-in duty equals 400 hours less of actual listening time. .
