People might not go back and test.
Personally every time I make a significant change in my gear I make adjustments to optimize results.
However, you can say the same thing for any part of the audio chain as far as being Stuck.
Person A: Settles on a copper IC for a component after trying out silver, copper and silver plated copper. He decides Copper is for him and buys a $1k IC. Later he changes a component and is 'stuck' with that IC that he thinks he enjoys best. Little does he know that the new component sounds best with Silver. He probably won't go back and test IC's again to find out.
The scenario works for every component in the audio chain. So it looks like we are all "stuck" to a certain degree.
