I've heard too many really good one-box cd-players, many playing back LP-CDRs, in order to believe that's a "memory" player is prerequisite.

I also found it interesting that you made the above comment, which is based on a comparison to vinyl, without actually having a vinyl "reference" in your "reference" system.
