Tito Puente is one of my favorite musicians. On this recording he plays with the Count Basie Orchestra. India has an incredible voice. She can really work her vocals very fast and she has a very high pitched voice. On some of the pieces she makes her voice sound like a musical instrument.
The problem with having two sound systems is that your always running back and forth, -this time up two flights of stairs, to compare how a recording sounds on each system. The big problem is how a CD player handles India's incredible voice.
I found that when India's voice hits the upper stratosphere, her voice sounds almost 'metalic' on the new Arcam fmj 36. Then I run downstairs and play the same passages on my Meridian 508.20. There the highs are not so stratospheric and they have lost the 'metalic edge'.
I'm not sure how much the CD player has to do with this or the speakers and associated amps. With the Meridian 508.20 I'm using Quad ESL 57's with Pathos Classic II amp. while the new Arcam is associated with Spendor S100's with VTL Tiny Triods and Audible Illusions Mod II preamp.
I'm not going to switch components around to find out what's doing what. But I will say there is a difference on how each system handles the stratosphereic highs, this time India's voice.
