I just like keeping the record straight. I really don't know what the deal is with the PCM1793 of the OP's question. I don't believe that it is a particularly great part, although it is oddly sandwiched between the '92 and the '94, which are top-notch.

The PCM1738 was the best part available at the time we designed the CX-7, apart from the PCM1704 which cost 10x as much. It still holds its own quite well, but it is more difficult to build an analog stage for it compared to the later generation of parts.
