Need recs for $2K upgrade

I would appreciate some recommendations on upgrading my system's front end. I have about $2K to spend.
I currently use a 1 yr old, not heavily used Pioneer DV79aVi universal player as the source.
I have about $2K to spend and I'm leaning toward a new player, or would my $$ be better spent by just adding a DAC to the existing Pioneer player?
Any recommendations?
