Vinyldude, could it be that at least some of what you are hearing can be attributable to electrical delivery issues? Phase issues due to usage by nearby air conditioning systems have been known to reek havoc on the phase relationship between the incoming current and voltage thus degrading sound. People do often state that their systems sound better at night.
