My journey was so long because I think the vast majority of CD players sound the same, to my ear. I am not about subtlety...if there is a difference, I had better be able to hear it.

As for break in, I don't believe in my ear being able to pick up the difference between a new component and a broken in one. As I said, I am not about subtlety....if it sounds good on initial listen, I will buy it. Otherwise, I will move on. Also, unless the component is in my home system, I cannot tell from a store audition if the component is a good one, or not.

But since you asked, the unit I tried at home was a store demo, and had probably more than a thousand hours on it.
