This is very useful for me too as I'm trying to break in my cd player. I've had the cd player running continuously, connected to the amp, but with the amp turned off. Would this work? I guess to make things clear in my own mind:

(a) CD on and playing, cd cables connected to amp, amp on (music can be heard)
(b) CD on and playing, cd cables connected to amp, BUT amp off (music cannot be heard)
(c) CD on and playing, cd cables NOT connected to amp

It would seem you're saying (a) definitely breaks in the cd player. My question is, does (b) break in the cd player or not? If not then I've just wasted 80 hours! :)
