Audio Aero CD players

I have had the Audio Aero Capitole mk.II(not moded)for some years and loved it.I bought a AA Reference SE for a couple of weeks ago and have problems. Where is that wonderful midrange and voice quality? Some harshness in the upper middel gives a lean and boring listening. Any comments? The player is 12 months old and I'm really frustrated.
