It turns out that in some countries the AC mains voltage is well below the rated value. If the AC line voltage was below about 89% of the nominal, then pressing the "Next" or "Previous" button would cause the transport mechanism to draw extra current that would drop the internal operating voltage even further. This would trigger a system reset and the player would re-read the disc as if inserting it for the first time.
The "N" version increased the value of one of the power supply capacitors to provide a larger reservoir and avoid this problem. It will make no difference whatsoever to 99.9% of the customers. But if you live in a country where the AC is not well regulated and your unit re-sets when skipping tracks, then contact your local distributor for an update.
