Shoulda been a smiley face in there, but I have read some comments from people who think that non-oversampling DACs are like those original CD player designs from the early 80s :-)
And you could spend the rest of your life working to perfect something that has built-in flaws in its commercial specifications, which is really what has been the story of CD playback for the last 15 to 20 years. How about a nice and simple high quality DAC with a memory card slot for standalone use. And a high speed network connection for flash loading music to local memory from a server. No moving parts, no USB or SPDIF or other flawed interfaces. If carefully laid out and kept simple, with good isolation between the dirty data processing side and the clean clock/analog conversion side, could be pretty nice.
