Here are the only 2 tweaks you should do immediately:

1. Read the manual
2. Deaden the chassis

Then, listen to it and enjoy. Sure, you could piddle with it to make it "better", but at this point, you don't even know what aspects you want to make "better". Appreciate the fact you got a $700 CD/DVD player for $75 and spend the rest of your budget on new music. Seriously.
