Right, you cannot recover the lost data from MP3 files. You can add .shn files to the mix of the three you listed. I would say there basically isn't much difference in those. Some require conversion via software to be decompressed and played. FLAC has some hi-def files that are higher resolution than .wav. FLAC and .shn require a tool (free software) to convert the files (to .wav)
