Hmmmm....... I think you need a VSWR bridge and a network analyzer to make a useful measurement, but your point is well taken.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not against using the BNC connector in a 75 ohm transmission line. It's the wiring AFTER the connector as it enters the inside of the DAC that makes the BNC seem useless to me. Just for fun, consider the idea that the S/Pdif transmission line, although modeled to be 75 ohms, is not even close to 75 ohms in real life because of the way that it is implemented. Even with a perfect 75 ohm cable. In that case, you might get better results using higher quality RCAs with higher quality wire that is not exactly 75 ohms.
Your point is still true about the BNC connector itself. I just don't think that we're dealing with a true 75 ohm transmission line, and that's why it doesn't make a meaningful difference when listening.
