I've had the 861 for ten years, and have found two issues with it that are easy to fix.
First, the pointy feet are not the best way to support the player. They look good but constrain the box to accept horizontal vibration from the rack. I found the audio resolution improved when I put my player on DIY roller-ball suspensions and eliminated the shelf. My suspensions are carried on damped aluminum beams that rest on the rack frame. Horizontal freedom above the natural resonance of about 1 Hz seems to relieve the laser servo of quite a bit of work.
Second, the player is very, very sensitive to RF noise on the AC. Good power conditioning and a good power cord are essential to get the best out of the player.
Also, be sure the display is switched off for serious listening.
