Warranty repairs cost time and resources and do not generate revenue (offering an "update" at the time of the warranty work would).
Companies such as Bryston that offer 20 year transferable warranties add value to their product by doing so. The whole topic is quite silly if you ask me. If I purchased a used, non-transferable warranty component and needed a repair during the warranty period, I would just pretend to be the original owner.
Yes, your address would be different than the original owner, but how would the manufacturer know that the original owner didn't move? Of course I would clear this with the original owner first and would also check into the legal aspects of it (it's nice to have legal counsel in the family).
If anyone has a problem with this, you could always "transfer" the component back to the original owner and have him get the warranty work done. Nothing against manufacturers, I'm just illustrating a way to beat the (questionable) system.
