Stich, as I have pointed out below I don't think that upsampling has anything to do with your posting. It is about the best DAC irrespective of any outboard processing or other stuff. You just asked simply, what is the best sounding DAC?

Now to 176.4 kS/s. Not only does this relate to 4 x 44.1 kS/s but, just as important to a dCS owner, is that it also allows the transport to be slaved to the DAC (subject to the transport in use having a wordclock input) which adds another sonic improvement. So another "unfair" advantage to the dCS which, to repeat, is why we have to discount anything other than the "naked" DAC for the purposes of your posting.
