famk, although I think you are basically right overall, this is a posting about the best DAC. So, regrettably, we have to cut out anything about additional digital/digital converters etc. The Elgar has to stand on its own feet. So, as you say " no DAC at 16.44.1 sounds good" it seems that you disagree with me as my comments relate to the naked DAC. And I do get great soundstaging with the Elgar on its own. That's not to say that conversion (in my case normally to DSD) doesn't add something. And a Verona master clock adds even more. But that isn't the central point of this thread.
