I would strongly suggest getting a Zhaolu. Witha few very minor mods it is a killer DAC. By minor I mean changing out the op-amps (they are on jacks, so this is easy), and bypassing the analogue stage coupling caps (very easy, minor soldering). There are other mods, for sure, but this takes you 90% of the way there.
If you're not into any mods at all, then visit the marketplace at head-fi.org and pick up one that is being sold used there. I would suggest going for an Oritek modded Zhaolu, or one with a Zapfilter already installed on the used market.
Bottom line, I compared it to some very high priced, well regarded DAC's and players and it was hard to tell the difference. Very musical, detailed, and beautiful at a very cheap price point.
