I don't know if age has any bearing on a transport dac combo. I have a Theta Basic from 1994 and use a MF Dac and it competes with any in my area. I have a friend that uses a old PS Audio Lambda II and a Altman dac that replaces a Krell SACD Standard. I also have a friend who uses a MF A5 and it rocks and can be found used on the 'Gon. Another friend bought a Pioneer DV 58 for 349.00 from Walt's and had the clock switched out for the Superclock 4 from Rick at EVS, work these things into your cash flow. The DV 58 (though a DVD Player) is great at 2 channel and a no brainer for the price.
