Thanks Tony, very informative :)
I did some additional comparative tests today, where I had Tact with its digital volume control and a couple of less expensive DACs, so I could to a degree evaluate Wadia’s digital control against Tact’s, as well as Wadia’s analog section directly into amp against other DACs’ since I could do volume control for them on Tact, which in theory does similar thing to Wadia’s digital control to minimize loss.
My conclusion was that Wadia is just an exceptional piece of gear, its volume control and especially its voltage to current converters and analog section are so much more advanced that it was pointless to try to replicate its performance with less expensive gear.
Wadia directly into amps was so much better in every aspect that I clearly see now the reasons behind its price tag, considering what it does for me actually makes Wadia a bargain.
I have made decision to sell my pre-amp and end search for digital source.
For the rest of sources that do not provide suitable digital output that could be fed into Wadia but analog only (such is my TV box for example), I will search for an AD converter so that I can bring it into Wadia.
Considering that it is not imperative to have top performance in AD conversion for this purpose (casual watching/listening of TV program), would you be able to suggest an inexpensive AD converter?
Any thoughts about Wadia 150?
