Chances of finding stuff you'll play often are much less - for example I have the complete Haydn quartets (whatever it is, 16 CDs or something) by the Los Angeles quarter - wonderful performances - but seldom listen to quartets I didn't get to know first through individual purchases.

Sometimes less is more. I find most of my big sets sit on the shelves while I thrash some individual CDs to death. Even a double CD can be too much sometimes.

There's an 80CD set of Glenn Gould that I've dithered about buying but I know that there will only be half a dozen out of it I qill regularly play in addition to the dozen or so CDs and LPs I play of his at the moment. So not sure it's worth it!
