In a preamp, it is often the way the mfr biases the tube(s) he uses that will cause these warnings....because a different tube while it might work electrically will sound like crap. I have seen this in the 6922 world where not everyone biases on the linear part, depending on the tube. For example, the new EH 6922 can be biased very differently than many of the EU-made tubes. There are trade-offs when you bias.
I would try this, run the 12AX7 and measure the gain and then put in the 5751. They may be doing it for the gain, but then again modern-day CDPs have enough gain to drive a combine, so perhaps lower gain - if that is the result -would be good for your system.
Bottom line: I have no idea!
