I suggest going with a separate dac / transport over a single box as well. I don’t believe either way is sonically better than the other, but do consider the transport mechanism to be the Achilles Heel of all cd-players. With more moving parts, the transport is more susceptible to wear and failure. It seems as though many (high-end and consumer grade) cdp are using the same outsourced transport mechanisms. I have a hard time seeing what appears to be the same transport found in lesser grade units, being used in high end CDP. If the transport needs servicing, your denon (or any throw away player) can be used as an interim transport with a separated dac where as you’re down with a single box solution – while it’s being fixed.
Something else to consider, is a computer interface that would allow future expansion of a music server, internet music streams, etc. Some have found using a pc hard drive as media storage device / playback more convenient and sonically better than a transport.
Believe what your ears say - not hearsay.
