While not with the DP-500, I heard a comparison of the (dp-67?) straight vs through an accuphase preamp (don’t recall the model) in a dealer set-up. I thought the differences were subtle. If anything, straight was a cleaner or more brightly illuminated, but not as weighty or robust with the pre in the loop. For me, the net effect was a coin toss.
