Portable CD or hard drive player that can record live events too?

Hello,

I am dissatisfied just using a Panasonic portable CD player $40. I thought about an iPOD. But I want to record voices and my choir (choir I am a member of) sometimes too. Is there a unit that will do both? I know there are ones that will do one or the other. I heard about Zoom H2 $200 and Sony PCM D50 $500.

Yes I understand this my not be the right place to post. I could not find a better place to do it. I did recently register in head-fi.org.
